Outside sales representatives are a company’s liaison with their customers and must have strong knowledge of heavy trucks and other types of heavy equipment and the jobs they perform in the field. These positions require outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills, and the ability to work with personnel throughout the company to meet the heavy equipment needs of clients in an efficient and timely fashion. Outside sales representatives help customers and companies troubleshoot supply and service problems when they occur and identify opportunities for improvement. They must have very strong written and oral communication skills and must be able to travel, often for extended periods.
