“I tell ya… I don’t get no respect”!  For those who remember, this was  the main follow-up line to most jokes delivered by the late Rodney Dangerfield.  I recently read an article by respected staffing sage Danny Cahill who commented that he was receiving a lot of e-mail lately from frustrated recruiters. Their complaints focused on the shabby treatment they had been receiving from their clients.  In other words, just like Rodney Dangerfield, they felt they were not getting any respect!   If the truth be told, the reason for this lack respect in many cases is justified.

There are many reasons why we respect someone it’s usually because of something they have done, can or will do that you or I cannot. If you are considering using a staffing firm it’s important to take a close look at whom you are considering engaging your search with because this is an industry that has very few if any barriers to entry.

They all talk about how different they are from other agencies because of immeasurable things like their work ethic, company culture, how much they truly care about what they do, master at finding the "right fit" etc. Surprisingly they then offer up a simple one dimensional candidate search on either Monster or Career Builder which involves nothing more than a job posting and resume database search. This brings very little to the table that any self reputable HR department can’t do for themselves so I do understand why these agencies “don’t get no respect!”
